Thieves broke into a major Leeds city centre store in an early hours raid and stole a “substantial” amount of money from its tills.
Police are investigating the break-in at the Marks and Spencer store on Briggate, which happened in the early hours of Sunday, August 7.
Bosses at the company have confirmed a break-in happened but have so far declined to reveal the amount of cash taken. They also remained tight-lipped about how entry into the building was forced.
Police confirmed several tills were raided, but it is not known if the tills themselves were removed.
A West Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “City and Holbeck police are investigating a burglary at a shop premises in the Briggate in the early hours of Sunday, August 7.
“Entry was forced and a substantial amount of cash was taken from a number of tills.”
