Subject: Leeds Arena: Construction well underway Tue Aug 23, 2011 11:59 pm
IT has been described as one of the most important developments in Leeds for years and work on the city’s £60m arena is now well under way.
The latest pictures of the site in Clay Pit Lane show the project to create a 13,500-seater arena is taking shape.
Workmen moved on to the site earlier this year and the building is due to open early in 2013.
Up to 300 people are expected to be employed during the construction phase, which is being headed by private sector firm BAM.
It has been estimated the arena could boost the city’s economy by £25.5m a year and firms in the region are already benefiting from the scheme. Nearly 40 Yorkshire businesses – 19 of them from Leeds – have won contracts.
